Life at West Lodge

When the decision was made to build a brand new house at West Lodge it provided us with the opportunity to design something very special. The aim was to create an environment that gave residents somewhere where they can live the life they choose and enable us to meet their needs.

In this we believe we have succeeded.

Every bedroom is built larger than the recommended national minimum care standards. All have an electrically powered profiling bed complete with pressure relieving mattress. Almost all of the rooms have extensive views of the surrounding countryside or gardens.

Each room also has newly equipped en-suite facilities including a walk-in shower. The rooms have plenty of storage space and a seating area. There is also a ceiling track hoist system fitted in every room and a 24hr nurse call button system.

Each room also has a digital Freeview 26" flat screen television and telephone and data points. Rooms are cleaned daily and the laundry service is also available on a daily basis.

We are very proud of the facilities we have created but will always encourage our residents to make the room their own so they feel comfortable, safe and secure in their own private area.

The kitchen at West Lodge has also been newly appointed and is extremely well equipped and stocked, enabling staff to produce nutritious and appetizing food as well as individual alternatives to the menu if required.

The menu itself has at least two choices and it is entirely up to the resident whether they eat in the dining room, lounge area or even in their own room. The care plan for each resident takes their nutritional requirements into consideration so we can consistently provide them with delicious meals that also meet their health regime.

There are some culinary traditions that many of our residence enjoy too including lunchtime fish and chips on a Friday and a hearty roast on Sunday.

A relaxing soak in the bath is definitely a luxury that can be enjoyed at West Lodge.

Apart from the en-suite facilities and walk in shower in each bedroom, every floor has a well appointed and spacious bathroom with a specially equipped assisted bath. It is designed for purpose with light sensitive controls for ease use by those with impaired grip or co-ordination. The ceiling track hoist system extends to the bathrooms so that they are accessible by all.

It may be part of the hum-drum of life but West Lodge takes pride in the extent and thought that goes into providing a high quality service. Within the new house we have a modern, state of the art laundry room with a chute delivery system that means there aren't bags and trolleys clogging up the corridors.

We provide a daily laundry service to our residents and because the items of clothing never leave the premises there is very rarely any loss or mix ups to cause unnecessary concern and stress.
